Recently I have installed linux (Ubuntu) in my desktop. I am using SAP GUI for Java to connect to SAP from linux. I was happy with SAP GUI for java until I encountered an error when I tried to run the t-code ‘SMARTFORMS’.
I started searching the net to fix the issue, I found SAP Note 736147 and below is the excerpt from SAP note.
Reason and Prerequisites The SAP GUI for JAVA does not support the ActiveX controls used in the Smart Forms transaction.
The main components of the development tool for the forms were developed as external ActiveX controls
for the Win32 platform and only run under SAP GUI for Windows. The controls do not have any Java Beans
equivalents . Refer to note 454939 for more information.
Solution The Smart Forms transaction is not released for SAP GUI for JAVA. Use SAP GUI for WINDOWS instead.
If you see note 454399 then you will find that some other components that does not work in SAP GUI for java. So consider this if you are planning to switch to linux from windows.
